The Key
So grand a key
To hold
From
Centuries ago
Status symbols
Gold treasures
Doors of the past
There! A stone fortress
A draw bridge
To the Great Hall
Echos of knights and royalty
Its medieval dwelling
Hears footsteps in the night
What happened
Behind these massive walls
Permanent and formidable
They welcome me
Like a fairy tale story
A carving
To dream upon
Wander the courtyard
Climb the towers
Through murky passages
Feel dank cold walls
Spiraling staircases
To secret chambers
Of great proportion
This massive limestone
Looks down on forests
Protectors of my domain
My key needs to know
What Baltic state do you reside
Did you tie the green twine?
As though to identify
Which door you belong
Skeletons
I shall leave in place
Your locked history
