I completed The Johnny ten years after my first breast cancer diagnosis. The discovery of my original hospital garment after all those years was an emotional experience. Allowing my creative instincts to take over, a series of small self-portrait paintings emerged. I cut up my mammography report into the form of a nametag and hand sewed each painting to the fabric. As I worked, I thought of those closest to me who lost their battles to breast cancer. The Johnny continues to be a source of inspiration to me.
